Our Story

I (Bill Huffman) grew up in the Los Gatos/San Jose area and graduated from Cal State East Bay with a BS in Chemistry and a Masters from Santa Clara University. After working as an engineer for Fairchild Semiconductor in Mountain View and Intel Corporation in Chandler Arizona and then Santa Clara, I retired from Intel and started to volunteer at Grid Alternatives in Oakland. After working as a lead installer on over 25 jobs, I started working with a contractor in Auburn. I really became excited about solar while working in Auburn. After completing several installations on ranches (starting with ground mount systems, and then roof mounted solar,) I came back home to the Bay Area and started working on a new custom home in Monte Sereno.

During the first project in Monte Sereno I met and started working for a custom home builder who I gained an incredible amount of experience from while working for several years. At the same job in Monte Sereno I also met a custom home builder in Campbell/Los Gatos who I still work with today. I became a licensed solar contractor late in 2014 and started Huffman Solar in early 2015. I continue to work with a few custom home builders and we also work with individual home owners on small homes, large estates and small businesses. Over time I have developed and continue to develop relationships with a number of excellent electricians, roofers, solar and battery experts and people in various trades.
